Implementation of a Secure Smart Examination Authentication System Using QR Code and Biometric Technology

Abstract

University examination systems often rely on manual verification methods that lead to impersonation, attendance delays, forged hall tickets, and administrative inefficiency. To overcome these challenges, this paper presents the design and implementation of a secure smart examination authentication system using QR code and fingerprint verification. The proposed system follows a multi-role architecture consisting of Super Admin, University Admin, Head Supervisor, Exam Supervisor, and Student modules. Head Supervisors are responsible for exam form approvals, college-level monitoring, and student registration management, while Exam Supervisors handle real-time examination hall operations such as QR code scanning, fingerprint verification, attendance marking, and live candidate monitoring. Each student receives a unique hall ticket QR code generated using PRN number, Exam ID, and Registration ID after approval. On the day of examination, identity is verified through QR scanning and fingerprint authentication, and attendance is automatically marked as present. The system also supports exam controls, announcements, and secure reporting features. Experimental analysis shows that the proposed framework improves examination security, reduces manual workload, saves student time, and enhances operational efficiency. The system demonstrates how digital authentication technologies can modernize university examination management.
